69 years of age, a resident of St. Charles MI, passed away Saturday June 27, 2009 at The Cartwright Residence in Saginaw Township. Len was born November 12th, 1939 in Manilla, Arkansas. Len is the son of Kenneth and Pauline Ruby Williams. The family relocated to the Saginaw area in 1951, where Len attended St. Charles Community Schools, served in the U.S. Navy, then attended Central Michigan University. Len married Karen A. Niederstadt on September 8th, 1962. Len was a prominent and well respected businessman in the community and founded and operated two internationally successful corporations between 1967 and 2008, Optico/Karlen Manufacturing and Lendell Manufacturing Inc. (LMI). Len received the “Building Michigan’s Future award” from the Saginaw Area Growth Alliance in 1989, and also the Entrepreneur of the year for Saginaw County. He was a very avid reader and loved creating new manufacturing methods and designs on his computer. He enjoyed spending time at his Florida home in the winter months. Len is survived by his beloved wife Karen and two daughters, Lynette (Tim) Drumhiller and Lesley (Matt) Becker all of Saginaw County, and his seven grandchildren, Megan, Logan, Madison, Chase, Morgan, Blake and Isadore. He is also survived by twin brothers, Terry R. and Mickey V. Williams. Len was predeceased by his sister Betty Sue Moore, May 30th, 2008. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at W.L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, with the burial service to follow at Garfield Cemetery in Swan Creek Township. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday June 30th from 2:00 - 4:00 and from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. and then on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
