Laura Mae Watson, Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and mother-in-law passed away peacefully in her sleep early Friday, June 05, 2009, at the Patti Lewis Care Home in Howell. Age 85 years. Laura Mae Short was born September 25, 1923 in Hemlock, the daughter of the late Alonzo and Adeline (Fox) Short. She married Franklin J. Watson on September 28, 1940 in Hemlock; he predeceased her January 24, 1993. She had been a member of Nelson and Hemlock United Methodist Churches. She was a member of the Freeland Rebekah Lodge. She and her husband enjoyed camping. She also enjoyed playing cards, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her beloved son, Ronald J. Watson I, predeceased her in 2004. Surviving are four grandchildren, Roberta Watson, Saginaw; Ronald J. Watson II and wife Kathleen, Vicksburg, MI; Robert D. Watson and wife Kristi, Howell, MI; Joseph C. Watson, Hemlock; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley, Abigail, Alexis and Alex; Ronald III and Amanda; Brooke and Faith; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Watson, Hemlock; one sister, Vivian Sims, Hemlock; one brother-in-law and four sisters-in-law, Virginia Short, Cora Short, Floyd and Donna Jean Watson, and Dorothy Watson; several nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by sisters and brothers, Dorothy Saumier, Elmer Short, Mildred Clark, Marie Clark, Gladys Hooks, Walter Short, and Alonzo Short Jr. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 125 E. Saginaw Street, Merrill, where her family will receive friends from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Sunday. Rev. Nicholas Scroggins will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Hemlock United Methodist Church or a charity of their choice.
