Gerald B. Verbrugge, Saint Cloud, Florida, previously from Saginaw, Montrose and Sanford, Michigan

Passed away Thursday September 24, 2009, after a short illness while visiting family in Michigan. Age 67. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cecilia (Kukulis); his children (grandchildren) David & Lori Verbrugge (Brendan and Sophie), of Anchorage, AK; Melodie & Tom Valvano (Matthew and Elizabeth), of Saginaw, MI; Kevin & Kris Verbrugge (Alex and Ryan) of Clinton Township, MI. He also leaves behind his sister Michelle & Les Brown of Sanford, MI; and his brother Jim Verbrugge of Centennial, CO. He was predeceased by his sister Onalee Tanner. He will also be greatly missed by many well loved in-laws, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. Jerry was very proud of his military service as a Marine in Vietnam and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3227 of Saint Cloud, Florida. After retiring from General Motors Saginaw Division, he moved to Florida and with his wife, turned his “scroll saw artwork” hobby into a small business. “Grandpa’s Woodshop” took many 1st Place and Best of Show ribbons in craft fairs throughout Florida. A gathering of family and friends will be held 4:00-8:00p.m. October 4, 2009 at W. L. Case and Company, Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road. The Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2009 at Holy Spirit Parish with military honors following the service. At the conclusion of the services a light luncheon will be offered in the parish hall.
