Donna M. Velthuysen (Wenzel), Freeland, Michigan

Passed away early Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland. Age 78 years. Donna Mae Newcomb was born October 18, 1930 in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Thelma (Tyler) and Archibald Campbell Newcomb. She married Martin J. Wenzel Jr. March 18, 1950; he predeceased her May 20, 1968. She later married Henry Velthuysen, and had nearly 30 years of marriage and companionship with him until his death on August 3, 2004. They had traveled the world together. She was a member of Christ Ev. Lutheran Church, WELS. She was an avid gardener and loved roses. She leaves behind two beloved daughters, with whom she made her home, Pamela M. and Candace L. Wenzel. She also had three step-children, Ron Velthuysen, Beverly Jean (Larry) Rouch, and Ray (Karen) Velthuysen, and their families; also one sister, Dora Moore; three brothers, Ernie Newcomb and his fiancée Rosemary Amos, William Newcomb, and Archie (Marlene) Newcomb; one brother-in-law, Robert Pepera; four sisters-in-law in the Wenzel family, Betty Kneuss, Audrey Fobear, Shirley Anaman, Sarah Jones; many nieces, nephews, and their families. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Erma B. Allen and Anna Pepera. Funeral service will take place 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road. Rev. Wade Johnston will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, and then on Tuesday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a church or charity of their choice, or the American Cancer Society.
