Anne H. Vaydik, Saginaw, Michigan

Age 92 years, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 07, 2009, at the Cartwright Residence in Saginaw Township, after a brief illness. Anne Hunter Macdonald was born August 6, 1916, in St. Catharine, Ontario, Canada, to William and Agnes Macdonald. She attended Michigan State University where she met and married Frank Vaydik on October 20, 1938. After working briefly at Hudson’s in downtown Detroit, she devoted her considerable energies to raising their three sons and to volunteer work in Detroit, Kansas City, MO, and Sebastian, FL. She especially enjoyed caring for baby zoo animals which her husband sometimes brought home as a sidelight of his position as Parks and Recreation Director, first in Detroit and later in Kansas City. Mrs. Vaydik is survived by two sons and their wives, Frank and Mary Ellen, Saginaw, Bruce and Joan, Midland; three granddaughters, Amy Richards (Scott), Elk Rapids, Angela Vaydik, Kansas City, Mari Vaydik, Detroit; and one great-granddaughter, Marin Richards. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry, two brothers, William and Alec Macdonald, and one sister, Margaret Camill. A celebration of Anne’s life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City. Memorial donations may be made to The Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square in Saginaw.
