Robert P. “Cool Bob” Uribe, Saginaw, Michigan

Was born on May 22, 1930 in Gagetown, Michigan to Agustin and Paula (Mena) Uribe. Most of his childhood was spent in Sebewaing, MI in the thumb area. Robert graduated from Saginaw High School in 1949. He returned to Saginaw after serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a shoe repairman in Saginaw, after learning the trade in his early teens in Sebewaing. Robert worked as a postal clerk in the Saginaw post office until his appointment by Governor Romney as one of the early Michigan Migrant Program Coordinator in the 60’s. Bob then worked at the First Ward Community Center until he retired in 1995 after 28 years of service to the community. He received many awards of recognition and appreciation for his service to the area, he was honored by Saginaw County with the Liberty Bell award. Robert was proud to have served as an Officer and Commander of the Chesaning American Legion Post #212. He counted as his friends many members of local veteran’s organizations and those of whom he served and those with whom he worked. A true connoisseur, he was passionate with the culinary arts and took great pleasure in cooking for family and friends. Robert was predeceased by his parents, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law. Surviving are his five children; Michael Uribe, Solita (Charles) Massie, Donald Uribe, Robert Uribe and Mara Uribe; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; siblings Michaela Araiza, Amelia Lopez, Pibe “Natividad” (Edward) Mendoza and Carlos (Patricia) Uribe; and many nieces and nephews. He leaves to cherish his memory his dearest friend whom he loved for 17 years, Debra Birnbaum; mother Kay and the Birnbaum Family.  Following Robert’s wishes cremation has taken place. A funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 3680 S. Washington Rd. Rev. Fr. Daniel Anholzer OFMCap will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of American Legion Post #212, Chesaning, MI.  Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road, (off State).  In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to The United Way or the Disabled Veterans of America.
