Mary Martha O’Reilly (Mary O) Smith, Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away on August 22, 2009 in Saginaw, MI. She was born on October 2, 1921, the daughter of Thomas and Myrtle (Delmore) O’Reilly. Mary was a lifelong resident of Saginaw, MI and proudly lived in the same home on Bond and Irving throughout her life. Mary was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Parish, and a 1938 graduate of St. Andrew High School. Her Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life. Mary married Stewart G. Smith on 1-10-1943 and together they had five children. Mary was devoted to her husband who predeceased her in 1983. Mary was a wife and mother and her family was her top priority. She had a friendly, sunny disposition and a gift of making anyone feel like a close friend. She loved being involved with her children and grandchildren and was their biggest supporter. Mary was a champion of her neighborhood; an advocate for the preservation of Bliss Park and a 25-year volunteer at Saginaw General/Covenant Hospital. Surviving are her five children: Mary Beth (John) Lantz, Saginaw, Martha Jane (Bill) Burns, Gaylord, MI, Stewart (Carol) Smith, Greenville, MI, Mark (Julie) Smith, Toledo, OH, Margaret (Michael) Kent, Traverse City, MI. Grandchildren include: William Burns, Emily Burns, Anna Lovelace, Jenny Loree, John Lantz, Stewart Smith III, Patrick Smith, Michael Smith, Mary Rose Smith, Martha Smith, Thomas Smith, Michael Kent, Bradley Kent, AnnMarie Kent and eight great-grandchildren. The family appreciates the tender care given to “Mary O” by the staff of St. Francis Home, and Advantage Home and Hospice during her final days. Visitation is Tuesday 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home. Funeral mass of celebration is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew. In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent in Mary’s name to St. Andrew’s Parish.
