George William Schmiege, Saginaw , Michigan

Faithful Christian and well respected business man passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009, at the Cartwright Care Center. Age 95 years. The son of the late William and Wanda (Krause) Schmiege was born June 22, 1914 in Brady Township, Michigan. He married Bertha Mueller, February 15, 1941. She passed away November 16, 1973. He later married Gertrude Gensmer, October 14, 1979. She passed away September 25, 2007. George was employed by Locke Implement from 1935- 1939. He owned and operated his own business, George Schmiege Auto Repair from 1945 to 1985. He was instrumental in the start up of Bethany Lutheran Church and was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for many years. He enjoyed hunting, and was well known for his assistance to others in repairing cars and other projects. Surviving are a daughter, a son and their spouses, Susan and Jim Wilson, Saginaw; Rick and Laurel Schmiege, Rochester Hills, MI; a stepson, Richard Gensmer, Saginaw; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Schmiege, Owosso, MI; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters and five brothers. The funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2009, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 1020 Court St. at Bond St. Rev. Carl T. Otto will officiate with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel 409 Adams St. from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday and then at the Church from Noon Monday until the time of the funeral service.
