Passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at his home. Age 56 years. Johnny G. Rodriguez was born on February 11, 1953 in San Antonio, TX to Juan and Enedina (Villegas) Rodriguez. Johnny served with the U.S. Navy from 1982-1986 during his service he received the Good Conduct Award. He was proud of the Saginaw Community and during the 1970’s he was a community activist. Johnny’s involvement with the community sparked his interest to attain his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Leo’s University. Johnny was a charter member of S.T.A.R.S, during his five years he served as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice Chairman of the Board. He was awarded Michigan Commission on Spanish Speaking Affairs Outstanding Hispanic Community Award. Johnny was a Mentor with the Saginaw / Bay office of Substance Abuse Services. He was a member of the American G.I. Forum.  Surviving are his parents: Juan and Enedina Rodriguez; three sisters: Dora Landin, Lilia (Carey) Moore, Julia (Bill) Mauws; a brother, Lionel (Maria Lopez) Rodriguez; his favorite niece, Chachi; many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are dear friends: Thomas (Debbie) Contreras, Delores Ornelas and many extended family and friends.  Johnny’s Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2009 at The Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave.  Rev. Ronald F. Wagner will officiate. Burial and Military Honors will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI.  Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State) on Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Vigil Service honoring Johnny will be held at the funeral home on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m.  Johnny will lie in state at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. Mass.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Rodriguez Family Discretionary Fund.
