Loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away Sunday, August 23, 2009 after a brief illness. Age 77. Esther Garcia was born August 9, 1932 in Turner, MI. to the late Apolonia (Alamillo) and Benjamin Martinez. Esther graduated from Saginaw High. She married Paul S. Olvera. He preceded her August 10, 2008. Esther began her career at St. Mary Hospital as an x-ray aide. She also was co-owner of Olvera Construction, Taco Villa and Casa del Rey. Esther also worked at Delta College, Red Cross and Health Source. Esther is survived by her children, Elena Olvera-Martinez, David P. Olvera and Dyana M. Olvera; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters: Guadalupe Vargas, Emilio (Dolores) Martinez, Tony (Lois) Martinez, Mary (Homero) Trevino, John (Pat) Martinez, Augustine (Jean) Martinez, Gloria Fulsher and Alice (Tony) Stricker. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jose Garcia. The Family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Amin, Dr. Shaheen, Dr. Naram, Dr. Bartnik and Dr. Yoon and to Heartland Hospice nurses: Minnie, Vicky, Tammy, Becky and Christie. Thank you for all the love and compassion you showed to our mother. Esther lived her life by these words: But love isn’t measured by time. It may be the only thing in the universe that lives forever. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2009 at St. Thomas Aquinas, 5376 State St. Rev. Fr. Randy Kelly will officiate. Cremation will follow, and entombment will take place privately at Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State) on Thursday, August 27, 2009 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Esther will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Rosary will be prayed at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Olvera Family Discretionary Fund.
