Mark Anton Neumeier, Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away early Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the Cartwright Care Center. Age 59 years.  He was born Easter Sunday, April 9, 1950 in Escanaba, Michigan, the son of the late Frank Edward Neumeier and Ruth Irene Effenberger. He graduated with the class of 1968 from Escanaba Area Public High School. He earned a B.A. degree from Michigan State University and an M. Div. degree from Yale Divinity School at Yale University.  He married Ann H. Helmer Sept. 4, 1971; she survives him. With the support of his father-in-law, The Rev. Ben F. Helmer, he became an Episcopal priest and served parishes in Michigan for 8 years including St. John's Episcopal Church in Saginaw. He accepted the position of Executive Director for Neighborhood Renewal Services in Saginaw in November of 1988, and served in that capacity for 20 years. During that time he withdrew from active ministry in the Episcopal Church. He was an active member of Trout Unlimited for 25 years and a member of the Saginaw Club. He was also a partner in Trafeh Lodge on the AuSable River.  He is survived by his wife, Ann, and by his beloved pets, three cats and three dogs, all of whom helped make his life meaningful. Survivors also include a brother, Paul (Marcia) Neumeier of Escanaba; a sister, Penny (Richard) Post of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. His parents and a brother, Matthew, preceded him in death.  A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, where his family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and then from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service. His brother-in-law, The Rev. Ben E. Helmer will officiate. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the William B.
