Passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009.  Age 90 years.  Elmer was born March 19, 1919 in Saginaw to William C. and Edith M. (Krueger) Meyers.  They predeceased him. Elmer was a 1937 graduate of Saginaw High School.   He married Doris I. Richards on March 25, 1945.  She predeceased him on December 30, 2005.  Elmer retired from Eaton Manufacturing in 1975 after 34 years of service.  He was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 46th Engineers for 48 months.  38 months were in the South Pacific Theater in the Dutch East Indies, Papua New Guinea, Karawins Biak Islands, and the Philippines Liberation on “A” Day landing on Leyte Island on October 20, 1944.  He was awarded four battle stars in the South Pacific Campaign and two battle stars in the Philippine Liberation Campaign as well as a Distinguished Unit Badge.  He had six overseas service bars and one service stripe.  He served with the MP Det. # 3 SCU 1440 in West Palm Beach, Florida for five months with the rank of Tech 4.  He was discharged after 53 months of service.  Elmer was a life member of VFW Post 9809, Past Commander, Past Adjutant, and member of the Honor Guard.   Surviving are two daughters and their spouses, Sue (Donald) Albrecht, Cindy (Drew) Montag; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Hoffman, Jill Albrecht and her fiancé Dr. Happy Castro; a grandson Eric Montag; two great grandchildren Jacob and Nicholas Hoffman; one niece and three nephews and many other loving family members.  Elmer was preceded in death by two daughters, Beverly Jean and Barbara Kay; and his brother Ervin.  Funeral service took place Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church.  Rev. Paulette Cummings officiated with entombment at Roselawn Mausoleum.  Military honors were observed.  Memorial offerings are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church, Cartwright Hospice Residence, or Southern Care Hospice.
