Passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at St. Mary’s of Michigan, age 91 years. Leonard W. Meyer was born on April 28, 1918 in Amsterdam, Netherlands to the late Willhelm and Elisabeth (van Randen) Meyer. He married Gonny Vanhoof on July 26, 1945, she survives him. In Holland he studied architecture and color lithography. Leonard came to the U.S. with his family in 1955. He worked for Hoffman Engraving, Bradford and La Rivieria, and was self employed with the Studio of Creative Art. Leonard received a majority of his work through Steering Gear. He loved painting portraits and landscapes and going to Art Shows. Leonard enjoyed playing tennis and chess. His paintings are owned by family and friends and are all over the world. Leonard is survived by his wife, Gonny; two daughters: Liz Griffore (Glen) of Gaylord, Josie Meyer (Don) of Au Gres; four grandchildren: Pam Grayson, Leesha Allen (Harold), Miesje Savich (Chris), Nico Seely (Annie); and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lies van Eicklenburg. Following Leonard’s wishes cremation has taken place. Leonard’s memorial service will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Fr. Emmett L. Marceau will officiate. Friends may call the Deisler Funeral Home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may honor Leonard by making donations to the Saginaw Art Museum, 1126 N.
