Virla Jean “Vee” Lynk, Saginaw Township , Michigan

Passed away on August 21, 2009 at Edgewood Living Center. Age 96 years. Virla Jean McCafferty was born on April 23, 1913 in Detroit, Michigan to the late James and Grace (Graham) McCafferty. She married Lawrence Lynk on January 25, 1931. He predeceased her. Virla Jean graduated from Farmington High School, Oakland County Normal, Eastern Michigan University, and she received her Masters’ Degree from the University of Michigan. She taught in a number of rural schools and Bentley Elementary School before moving to Saginaw in 1953, where she taught at Herig School until her retirement. After her retirement, she volunteered at Herig School for many years. Virla Jean was a life long member of both the Michigan Education Association and the National Education Association, People to People, as well as Michigan Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Sherrell McCafferty of Bay City. Also surviving are Jason (Liz) McCafferty, Sandy (John) Shulenberger all of Livonia, MI, Robert McCafferty, Eric McCafferty, and Carrie Bliss all of California. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert J. McCafferty and a sister, Avis. Virla Jean’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Edgewood Living Center and the caregivers of Avalon Hospice. Virla Jean’s Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2009 at Michigan Avenue Baptist Church; 203 S. Michigan Ave. Rev. David S. Van Brakle will officiate. Interment will follow in the McCafferty Cemetery. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State), on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
