Passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on October 13, 2009. Shirley was born January 21, 1956 in Saginaw, MI to the late Fred and Betty (Schauman) Oblander. She married Ric Lawler on May 15, 1982 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Shirley graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1973. She had been employed by Wickes Corporation and Hallmark Stores. Shirley was an avid Nouvel Sports Fan and dedicated Nouvel Tennis Team Mom. In 2009 the Bishop’s Tennis Invitational was dedicated in her honor. Shirley was a board member for the AAU Basketball Tri City Nets. She enjoyed following her daughter’s friends through their many activities. Shirley was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. After her cancer treatments Shirley gave a great deal of her time helping and encouraging other cancer patients. She loved to travel with her family to Cancun and Playa. Shirley also enjoyed spending time at her family’s Centennial Farm in Thomas Township.  She is survived by her loving husband Ric Lawler, her daughters: Kelsey and Lindsey; five sisters, Sandra Torka of Bay City, Sharon (Michael) Sivak of Higgins Lake, Susan Oblander and Ken Hayes of Freeland, Shelley (Keith) Strong of Merrill, and Sally (Michael) Plesko of Sand Lake; and brother-in-law, Brian Harden. Shirley is also survived by the Lawler family, John (Karen) Lawler, Tom (Rayleen) Lawler and Becki (Barrie) Lockwood. Also many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends; and two beloved dachshunds, Cami and Stu. Shirley’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Medical Team at U of M Medical Center, Covenant Health Care, Oncologists, Radiologists and their staffs. Also a special thank you to Dr. John Johnson and his staff for the compassion and care that they provided to Shirley.  Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Stacy Harden; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pat and Madeline Lawler.  Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. A Vigil service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Shirley will lie in state at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.  Shirley’s Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2009 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn. Rev. Fr. Randy Kelly will officiate with burial to follow in St. Andrew Cemetery.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Lawler Family Discretionary Fund.
