Passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009, at St. Mary’s of Michigan as the result of a drowning accident. Age 44 years. Gretchen Fick was born May 30, 1965 in Midland to Ronald and Sharon (Guttridge) Fick, the youngest of five children. She graduated from Swan Valley High School in 1983. Gretchen worked at Bertie’s Bakery, Good Times Pizza, Pizza Sam’s in Saginaw, and Staffing, Inc. in Grand Rapids, until her disability with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. She married Robert Wayne Humphrey on April 3, 2006; he survives her. Gretchen enjoyed reading, all types of music, painting, and jewelry making. Gretchen had a special way of lifting other’s spirits, even when she was experiencing acute pain. She was a very sweet person who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Surviving are her father and stepmother, Ronald and Sandra Fick, Saginaw; her mother and partner, Sharon Nowry and Jim Smith, Gladwin; her siblings, Michelle (Dirk) Bauer, Wimberley, TX; Gregg Fick, Gladwin; Rhonda (Dan) Binder, Midland; Rochelle (Richard) Tyra, Auburn; her aunts and uncles, Marilyn MacInnis, Tim and Marilyn Guttridge, and Beth Potter; many cousins; her husband, Wayne; stepsons, Justin and Robert Wayne Humphrey Jr.; several nieces and nephews, including Rachael, Kayla, and Danny Ornelas, Derek (Sarah) Bauer, Paige and Jeff Binder, Stacey and Stephany Tyra, Corinna, Korey, and Jessica Fick; special friend, Kathy Gross, and her dog Joey. Gretchen was preceded in death by her grandparents, Elmer Fick, Fred and Evalyn Falberg, and Leo and Belva “Ditty” McGowan. Special thanks to the staff of 6 North ICU at St. Mary’s of Michigan, especially nurses Ellen and Alexis; Dr. Al, and Dr. I. Kahn, for their excellent care and compassion. Also, to the staff from Covenant Pastoral Care Department, especially Cathy and Carol, for their prayers, comfort, and support given to the family. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2009, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, Saginaw, 48609 (Shields)., where her family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and then from 11:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of service. Pastor Dirk Bauer will officiate. Private committal services will be held at Homer Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that you consider the Humane Society of Saginaw County or the Salvation Army in your memorial offering.
