Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Monday, August 24, 2009 at Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre surrounded by her family. Age 91 years. Katherine Sady was born on December 24, 1917 in West Springfield, Massachusetts to the late John and Eva (Ackley) Sady. She married the love of her life, Dr. Alfred A. Ferris on May 14, 1945 in West Springfield, Massachusetts. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1983. Katherine was the foundation of their family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Katherine was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a former member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, a member of their Altar Society, and was a hard-working and passionate volunteer for the elementary school. She was also an avid volunteer at the former Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital and a member of their auxiliary. Katherine also enjoyed playing golf, tennis and gardening. Surviving are two daughters: Judith (James) Shinners, Jane (Alan) Bellile; four grandchildren: Elissa (Tom) Basil, Jacob (Tracy) Shinners, Jessica (Alex) Doll, Adam Bellile; four great-grandchildren: Luke and Molly Basil, Delaney and Darby Shinners; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Dadah; a brother, James Sady; and an infant brother, Edward Sady. Katherine’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for all of the wonderful care provided by her personal caregivers and the staff at Edgewood Assisted Living and Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre. Katherine’s funeral liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road. Rev. Fr. David L. Parsch will officiate. Private entombment will follow in St. Andrew Mausoleum. Friend’s may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State) on Thursday, August 27, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A vigil honoring Katherine will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. Katherine will lie in state at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Children's Zoo at Celebration Square, the Underground Railroad or a Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
