Passed away into the Lord’s hands on November 24, 2009 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence in Saginaw, Michigan. He bravely fought cancer for many years illustrating tremendous courage, strength, grace, and dignity. Gerald was born on May 4, 1934 in Bay City to the late Albert and Anna (Ligney) DeLisle. He was raised in Bay City and attended Bay City St. Joseph High School, graduating in 1952. He then moved to Thomas Twp. in 1978. He was married to the late Nancy Carol DeLisle for 55 years. She preceded him in death three months ago. Gerald was an avid sports enthusiast who loved the Detroit Tigers and the Red Wings. For many years he enjoyed playing baseball, football, bowling and golf. He also loved country music, singing for events with his family, and had the gift of telling jokes. He was the epitome of what life is about. He lived life to the fullest and his family meant the world to him.  Gerald was employed with Bay City Chevrolet from 1952-1959 before joining the Fraternal Order of Police in Bay City. He served as a police officer from 1956-1966 before taking employment with Dow Corning in Midland. Gerald served with the Michigan Army National Guard for six years, finishing his service in 1960. He worked with Dow until 1968 and rejoined General Motors at the Saginaw Transmission Plant (which became Pinkerton) working in plant security. He was with General Motors until he retired in 2007 after having worked for 55 years.  Gerald was the beloved, loving father to: Cindy (Tom) Delanoy, Gerald (Karen) DeLisle Jr., Renee (Gary) George, Ricky (Jan) DeLisle, Tim (Carmen) DeLisle; 14 grandchildren: Sarah, Scott, Somer, Meghan, Matthew, Patrick, Kayla, Courtney, Nicole, Brock, Taylor, Logan, Jordan, and Cal; five great-grandchildren: Lexi, Cayden, Lucas, Luke, and Payton with two more due in December and February; three brothers: Ed (Mary), Tom (Mary) and LeRoy (Margie) DeLisle; two sisters, Beverly (Frank) Darnell and Carin Miller.  Gerald was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley; a brother-in-law, Larry Miller.  Gerald’s funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State). Rev. Fr. James R. Carlson will officiate. Rite of Committal and military honors will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of American Legion Post # 439.  Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home on Sunday, November 29, 2009 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Monday, November 30, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Swan Valley High School Athletic Association, 8400 O’Hern Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48609.
