Mom and Dad’s “little firecracker” is up in Heaven with the angels she loved, and with her dad. Melanie passed away early Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Covenant – Cooper, following an illness of 20 years. Age 46 years. Melanie was born July 5, 1963 in Saginaw, the daughter of Shirley (Gifford) and the late Jack D. Burgess. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School Class of 1981 and also attended Southeastern Academy in Florida and Saginaw Valley State University. She was a member of State Street United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing pool and was a member of a pool league. She loved all animals, especially cats. She was a devoted mother to her son Philip, and attended his school events, especially hockey. Her favorite holiday was Halloween. Surviving besides her beloved son, Philip are her mother, Shirley Burgess; three sisters, one brother, and their spouses, Cheryl L. and Keith Marx, Timothy and Eden Burgess, and Jaclyn and David Prange, all of Saginaw; Robin Ann Burgess, Harrison; eight nieces and nephews, Daniel (Louisa) Marx, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Marx, Christina (Donald) Smith, Meghan and Britni Burgess, Sarah, Emily and Grace Prange; several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Besides her father, Jack, she was predeceased by an infant brother, Daniel. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, where her family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, and then on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Elias N. Mumbiro will officiate. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Humane Society of Saginaw County or a charity of their choice.
