Howard C. Brandt, Saginaw, Michigan

Devoted husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Shattuck Manor. Age 85 years. Howard C. Brandt was born July 25, 1924 to the late Rudolph C. and Lillian (Wagner) E. Brandt. He married Dorothy K. Hoffman on September 22, 1951 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Saginaw, Michigan. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2008. He enjoyed the outdoors, traveling and fishing. He worked in the Saginaw area all of his life and retired from Saginaw Steering Gear, a Division of General Motors, as Director of Engineering Administration on July 1, 1987 after 38 1/2 years of service. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1942 and Michigan State University in 1949. He served his country in 1942 to 1945 with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-24 heavy bomber pilot and in 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force as a B-29 heavy bomber pilot.  Howard was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the Germania Town and Country Club, American Legion Post #439, the Disabled American Veterans, the Saginaw Valley Radio Control Club and the Saginaw Steering Gear Retirees Club.  Howard was past president of the YMCA Industrial Executive Club, the Saginaw Steering Gear Retirees Club, The Germania Town and Country Club, Peace Lutheran Church PTL, and the Peace Lutheran Church Congregation.  Surviving are a son, Craig C. Brandt and his wife Henriette of Knoxville, TN; a daughter, Sharon Teschendorf and her husband Alan of Collinsville, IL; four wonderful grandchildren, Erika Brandt, Ryan, Alyssa and Kyle Teschendorf.  Howard’s family extends a special thanks to all of the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at the Shattuck Manor and Hospice of Hope for all their kindness and care.  A funeral honoring Howard will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Ave. Rev. Paul R. Hinz will officiate. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be held at Roselawn under the auspices of American Legion Post #439.  Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State) on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Howard will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Peace Lutheran Church or Germania Town and Country Club.
