Passed away Monday October 19, 2009.  Age 83 years.  Marilyn Jean Stump was born was born July 26, 1926 in Saginaw to Donald and Ethel (Street) Stump.  They predeceased her. She married Kenneth Henry Black on June 9, 1954.  He predeceased her on May 7, 1988.  Marilyn was a 1944 graduate of Arthur Hill High School, and attended Michigan State University pursuing her degree in education.  She taught for 32 years in Saginaw, and began the girls synchronized swimming at MacArthur High School, coached girls basketball and volleyball at Eisenhower (Heritage) High School, coached volleyball for the Can-AM games, and had won the 1980 volleyball state championship.  Upon retiring from teaching, she worked at, and later volunteered at Covenant HealthCare for 20 years, retiring in 2008.  She loved to help others, sports, reading and her cats.  Left to cherish her memory are her twin sister Madelyn Egerton, sister in law Margaret Derosier, brother in law William Cross, her nieces Yvonne (James ) Walsh, Karen (Thomas) Zirkle, Annette (Thomas) Dorey, Sharon (Norman) Riely, her nephews Robert Black, David (Peggy) Derosier, Don (Diane) Cross, Doug (Patty) Cross, James Walsh, and many great-great nieces and nephews.  Marilyn was predeceased by her sister Janice Cross and four brother in laws.  The family wishes a special thank you to the staff of Independence Village, Hospice Advantage and Senior Home Health Care.  Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at First United Methodist Church, 4790 Gratiot Road.  Rev. Kathryn S. Snedeker will officiate with entombment to follow at Oakwood Mausoleum. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home on S. Midland Road on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and at the church one hour before the funeral.  Memorial offerings may be given to Independence Village Resident Association, Covenant Foundation, or the American Cancer Society.
