Dr. George C. Arnas, Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away suddenly, Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at home. Dr. Arnas was born December 22, 1932 in Holidays Cove, Weirton, WV. He attended Brooke County schools, having graduated from Follansbee High School. He was also a graduate of West Virginia University and Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, where he graduated Cum Laude. He did his residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, where he specialized in urology. He then opened his practice in Saginaw, Michigan. Dr. Arnas also served in the US Navy during the Korean War, as a Lieutenant in the Medical Corps. Dr. Arnas was well-known for his many charitable interests. He volunteered his services in free clinics and soup kitchens in his area. After retiring from private practice, Dr. Arnas worked in Veterans Administration hospitals, supporting their cause and unselfishly working to improve the veterans’ lives. Dr. Arnas was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church of Saginaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, Klemes and Othea Arnas. In addition to his wife, Barbara (Veremis) Arnas, whom he married in September of 1992, he is survived by his brother, John and his wife Kathy, and nephews Brian, Paul, and Jonathan; his first cousins, George Arnas (Audrey), Dorothea Arnas Stakias (Alex), Olga Arnas, Adam Paul Souranis (Stella) and George J. Arnas (Mary). In accordance with Dr. Arnas’ wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Saginaw County or to the Saginaw Animal Shelter. Arrangements by the W. L.
