Winiecke, Sophie M., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Covenant HealthCare Harrison. Age 98 years. The daughter of the late John and Catherine (Maciag) Wrona, Sophie was born March 12, 1916 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Tony L. Winiecke on November 15, 1941. He predeceased her June 16, 1995. Sophie was employed at The Saginaw News for many years until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of St. John Paul II Catholic Church-St. Josaphat Site. Surviving are two daughters and their spouses, Joan A and Bill Gibson, Morgantown, West Virginia; Joyce B and Al Churchill, Linden; three grandchildren, Karen Gibson, Brian and Don (Ashley) Churchill; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Ezekiel, Katharine and Aaron Churchill; a sister, Vicki Konieczka; several nieces and nephews. Sophie was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Winiecke, and by two sisters and four brothers, Mary Blazejewski, Rose, Martin, Joe, Frank and John Wrona. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Paul II Catholic Church-St. Josaphat Site. Rev. Fr. James Bessert will officiate with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, where the family will be present on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and at St. John Paul II Catholic Church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Family and friends will pray the Rosary at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. John Paul II Catholic Church.
