Wertz, Dewey Dee, Wheeler, Michigan


Passed away April 4, 2015 at his home in Wheeler, Michigan. Age 96 years. Dewey was born on March 16, 1919 in Wheeler to Otto and Florence (Stone) Wertz. He married Emma Jean Hall on August 17, 1940 in Alma, Michigan. As a young man, he enjoyed racing motorcycles and shared this love with his sons who also raced. He farmed all his life and retired from Breckenridge Community Schools Transportation Department. He and Emma Jean enjoyed meeting new people and visiting new places as they traveled around the United States, Canada, and Mexico after retirement. He enjoyed reading Western novels and never missed following the Detroit Tigers baseball games. He is survived by his wife Emma Jean, two sons Merlyn (Ellen), William (Kathy), and one daughter Marilyn (Charles) Ritchie, 9 granddaughters, 21 great-grandchildren, and his brother Ronald (Carol). He was preceded in death by his son Timothy (Colleen), a sister, Lucille (Merle) Huntoon, and a brother, Clare Wertz. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel, Breckenridge with Pastor Carl Cecil officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge.
