Steckert, Carolyn Opal, Saginaw Township, Michigan

Loving mother passed away peacefully Friday, January 30, 2015 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor with her loving daughter by her side. Age 72 years. Daughter of the late Michael and Opal Violet (Cook) Ursuy, Carolyn was born November 13, 1942 in Owosso, Michigan. She attended Saginaw High school and was in the 1st chair playing the clarinet. She was a fast runner and could out run her cousins. Carolyn was married to Kenneth A. Steckert on October 26, 1963. He predeceased her April 15, 2002. Carolyn was an angel on earth. She dedicated her life to her family and parents caring for them selflessly and compassionately. She was an avid bowler and president of the 600 Club for almost 30 years. She was passionate about family, friends, cooking, music, arts and her faith as a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Her beautiful blue eyes were donated to the Gift of Life, even giving at the end of her life on earth. Surviving are one daughter, Ursula A. Steckert, Saginaw; her Godson, George Michael Ursuy and her Goddaughter, Judy Schieb Crane Sweatland; sister-in-law, Donna Steckert (Nicklyn) Elmeer; several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her adoring, faithful companion, her pet Buddy who was by her side at every moment. Also her cat Luther and Buster Brown. Carolyn was preceded in death by her twin infant brothers, Terry and Jerry Ursuy, her Godparents, Mary (Lucille) Cook Ursuy and George Ursuy. We wish to thank U of M Hospital, staff and Fr. Joseph Ngidjoi for the care and comfort they provided for us at the end of Carolynís legacy. Covenant VNA for their care and support. To Dr. Louis Byrne, Bethany Malott, P.A. and staff for the special care and going above and beyond for Carolyn. To family and friends, Dan Hayner, Mary K. (Wujkowski) Jackson, Roseann Bommarito, Janice DeFrancisco, Paula Brown N.P. and Shirley Randall for the support and caring through this last year that was greatly appreciated. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate with entombment in St. Andrew Mausoleum. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, where the family will be present on Tuesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the family.
