Simon, Robert J. “Bob”, Saginaw Township, Michigan


Loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother went to be with his Lord on Monday, February 2, 2015. Age 83 years. The son of the late John and Rose (Prenzler) Simon, Bob was born on May 17, 1931 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Lois M. Wardin on April 16, 1955 in Hemlock. She predeceased him on August 1, 2014. Bob attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church and graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1949, G.M.I. (Kettering University) with an Engineering Degree and an M.A. from Central Michigan University. 18 years later he achieved an M.B.A. from Central Michigan University. He was employed for 37 years at Saginaw Malleable Iron retiring in 1986. He also was an Adjunct Professor of Skilled Trades at Delta College retiring in 1996. Bob served in Korea in the 91st Military Police Battalion and the 187th R.C.T. He was very military oriented, holding positions in the American Legion as Post #439 Commander, 8th District Commander, Deputy Membership Director, Deputy 3rd Zone Commander and had served for over 15 years as Deputy Chairman of Education and Scholarships. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post #9809, AmVets, Voiture 60, and co-founder of the Korean War Veterans Association. He also formed a veterans speaking group detailing combat experiences in Korea to many high school students and church groups. Bob enjoyed many “happy hours” at their Higgins Lake cottage. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, playing cards, gardening, traveling, photography, telling stories and spending time with his family. He was a former Elder at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was a current member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hemlock. Surviving are his children, David (Deana) Simon, Phoenix, Arizona.; Daniel (Chris) Simon , Saginaw; Jill (Mark) Ballow, Hemlock; six grandchildren, Bobby (Katy) Simon, Nashville, Tennessee; Brittany Simon (Kimo Inere), Phoenix, Arizona; Montana Simon, St. Clair Shores; Joseph (Samantha Jones) Simon, Saginaw; Emily Simon, Saginaw; Jacob Bryan, Saginaw; six great-grandchildren, Jordan Jones-Simon, Jude Simon, Keanu, Luka, Leila and Enola Inere; a sister, Arlene and Harold) Puffpaff, Saginaw; a brother, John (Jack) and Ene Simon, Aiken, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 2461 N. Raucholz Road, Hemlock. Rev. Dr. William Morris will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #439. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and at St. Peter Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
