Simmons, Loretta H., St. Charles, Michigan

Beloved mother and grandmother passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence. Age 90 years. The daughter of the late Simon and Martha (Golz) Leikam, Loretta was born on September 3, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan, along with her twin sister, Lorraine. She married Leo Simmons Sr. on May 3, 1947. He predeceased her February 23, 1976. Loretta was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company for 12 years until her retirement in 1990 and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a member of Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption and the American Legion Post #439 Auxiliary. Loretta enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking, baking, traveling, playing cards and going to the casino. Most of all, Loretta loved spending time with her family. Surviving are one son and two daughters, Leo Simmons Jr., St. Charles; Karen and Ronald Prueter, Jasper, Florida; Nancy and Robert Cleary, Saginaw; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; one brother, Robert Likam, Saginaw; several nieces and nephews; many dear friends including Carolyn Hudson. Loretta was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Marie Simmons, and by her brothers and sisters, Clarence Pumford, Bergetta Leikam, Bernard Leikam, John Likam, Florence Leikam, Joseph Leikam, Molly Suchocki and Lorraine Matthes. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption. Rev. Fr. Andrew Booms will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, where the family will be present on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and at St. Mary Cathedral on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. There will be a Vigil Service at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Mary Cathedral.
