Riffel, Wayne P., Saginaw Township, Michigan


Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Shattuck Manor. Age 85 years. The son of the late John and Edith (Branstrator) Riffel, Wayne was born on December 17, 1929 in South Bend, Indiana. He married Joyce Ann Rapin, his loving wife of 60 years, on June 12, 1954. She survives him. Wayne served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Wayne was a Plasterer for John Bees Plastering for many years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, St. Stephen High School Athletic Boosters and active member of International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers since September of 1954. Wayne was a longtime volunteer for the Catholic Heritage Museum. He loved working outdoors and was an avid Notre Dame Fan. Surviving besides his wife Joyce are four sons and their spouses, James and Jane Riffel, St. Peters, Missouri; David and Mary Riffel, Pewaukee, Wisconsin; Peter and Marie Riffel, Mahopac, New York; Paul Riffel, Asbury, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Michael (Sara) Riffel, Ann (James) Pasquesi, Mark Riffel, Katie Riffel, Patrick (Lindsay) Riffel, Joseph, Andrew, Daniel, Adam and Samuel Riffel; one great-grandson, Jameson Pasquesi; a sister, Doris McHugh, North Carolina; many nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by one sister and one brother, Jane Papandria and Jack Riffel. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Andrew LaFramboise will officiate with interment in St. Andrew Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours at the funeral home. Friends may call at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2711 Mackinaw St., where the family will be present on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Stephen Catholic Church or Saginaw County Meals on Wheels.
