Munson, Mable M., Kalamazoo, MI, Formerly of Ithaca, Michigan

Passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo. Mable was born in Ashley on January 15, 1920, the daughter of Ernest and Goldie (Wood) Hoffer. She graduated from Ashley High School in 1938. On September 1, 1940, she married Dale Munson. Two children were born to Mable and Dale, Roger and Barbara. Mable was an active participant in the Newark Township Community. She devoted many hours to the Ladies Aid Society of the Pleasant Grove United Brethren Church and in later years attended Ithaca United Methodist Church, where she was an active member of Sarah Circle until it disbanded. For many years she was an active member of Farm Bureau, Ladies Home Extension, and a 4-H leader. She and Dale enjoyed their RV and the many camping experiences. Their travels took them to the homes of their children and grandchildren, as well as to those of extended family and friends. Also they met and made many new friends on the caravans and campouts. Sewing was one of Mable’s many talents. She made a multitude of beautiful quilts, many of which became gifts. When a baby shower invitation came her way, she loved making a soft baby quilt for the coming newborn. Mable resided at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo, an assisted-living residence, where she enjoyed church services, playing bingo, and socializing with new-found friends. Mable greatly missed her long-time home and her friends in Gratiot County, however, she found enjoyment being in the company of her children and their families that was made possible through the move. Mable was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; daughter-in-law, Karen; her father and mother; 2 brothers; and 1 sister. She is survived by her son, Roger (Lois) Munson of Kalamazoo; her daughter, Barbara (Don) Sanborn, of Allegan; 7 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Pastor Ron Simcox officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Gratiot County Commission on Aging, Ithaca United Methodist Church, or to any charity of your choice.
