Knoll, Nellie A. (Polger), Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence following a brief illness. Age 89 years. The daughter of the late Fred and Pauline (Sukalo) Polger, Nellie was born November 14, 1925 in Lafferty, Ohio and grew up in Monroe, Michigan. She was previously married to Tony Kanuszewski on September 7, 1946. He predeceased her October 2, 1996. She was employed at Means Stamping for over 25 years until her retirement. Nellie was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed spending time with family and holiday gatherings, watching the Detroit Tigers and NASCAR races. Surviving are two daughters and their spouses, Dianne (Kanuszewski) Portwine and her husband Ron, Ludington; Kathy (Kanuszewski) Simpson and her husband Darnell (D.J.), Bridgeport; two grandchildren, Ron (Heidi) Portwine, Jennifer (Jim) Strahan; four great-grandchildren, Nickolas and Cameron Portwine, Ruby and Jimmy Strahan; several nieces and nephews. Nellie was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers, Ann Swartz, Mildred Jencks, Frederick, Joseph and William Polger. Nellie’s family extends their gratitude and appreciation to VNA Hospice Nurses and the Cartwright Hospice Residence for their loving and compassionate care. Honoring Mrs. Knoll’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will take place at a later date.
