Hazzard, Mary, Saginaw, Michigan


Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Monday, March 30, 2015 at her home. Age 88 years. The daughter of the late Harry and Agnes (Letherer) Lawler, Mary was born July 5, 1926 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was married to Robert T. Hazzard on June 25, 1949. He predeceased her October 10, 1992. Mary loved children and devoted most of her life as a teacher and mother figure to three generations of children. She formerly taught in a two room school house in Burt and later taught grade school at St. Helen Catholic School. When not in the classroom she volunteered her time as a private tutor. She also volunteered her time at Mt. Carmel Head Start Program, Abortion Alternatives and at Queen of Angels Retreat House. Mary was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and League of Catholic Women. She enjoyed music and playing the piano and organ and was a former member of the Temple Theater Organ Club. Mary was also an avid reader and movie fan. Mary was a true friend to many. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Robert and Susan Hazzard, Springfield, Virginia; Sheila and Robert Rundell, Saginaw; Richard Hazzard, Frankfort, Michigan; her grandchildren, Patrick J. Rundell, Lisa M. Rundell (Chad Gombosi) , Matthew R. Hazzard and Benjamin R. (TFIA) Hazzard; a great-grandson, Oliver Gombosi; her siblings, Colleen (James) Shultz, Sheila (Bernard G.) Schultz , Jacqueline Wiltse, Katherine (Joseph) Stanulis, Muriel Lawler; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lawler, Grace Lovay and Iva Hazzard; a brother-in-law, Daniel Edlinger; daughter-in-law, Bethany Hazzard; four step-grandchildren, Brandon (Summer) Richard, Jennifer Richard, Christy Richard and Rachael Nocilo; many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by a son Timothy J. Hazzard; three siblings, Nancy A. Edlinger, Carol C. Wesolek and Jerome J. Lawler; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Monday, April 6, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1525 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Ronald Dombrowski and Deacon Roger Pasionek will officiate with interment in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, where the family will be present on Sunday from 1-6 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Vigil Service, led by Deacon Roger Pasionek, will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
