Gray, Walter K., Saginaw Township, Michigan


Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at New Hope Valley Assisted Living. Age 87 years. The son of the late Leslie and Effie (Teagarden) Gray, Walter was born on March 27, 1928 in Tiskilwa, Illinois. He married June Isenberg on September 9, 1950. She predeceased him on November 5, 2009. Walter proudly served the United States Navy during WWII. Walter was an Illinois Wesleyan graduate and received his Master Degree from the University of Illinois. He was a teacher in Bloomington, Illinois before following his brother Ken and good friend Jack Ekelof to Saginaw, Michigan in 1956. Walter was a former teacher at Stone, Emerson and Jones Elementary Schools. During his teaching years, he was a former president of the Saginaw Education Association. He was also a former Principal at Jones School. Walter then worked as a Job Coordinator for the Student Placement Center. Walter and June enjoyed traveling to Arizona, spending time on Sanford Lake, attending many of their grandchildren’s sporting events, fishing and golfing. Surviving are five children, Les and Roberta Gray, Johnson Creek, Wisconsin; Jeff and Jody Gray, Saginaw; Tom and Judi Gray, Grand Ledge; Sherry and Mike Numbers, Sanford; Lisa and Steve Kocks, Saginaw; 12 grandchildren, Nathan (Shelly) Gray, Nicholas (Buajar) Gray, Travis (Sarah) Gray, Kelley (Stacey) Gray, Adam (Carrie) LaDouce, Ryan (Evelyn) Gray, Mary Rose Gray, Faith Gray, Emily (Anthony) Dittmer, Daniel Numbers, Carley Kocks, Andrew Kocks; thirteen great-grandchildren; two siblings, Roberta (Wes) Foster and Bob (Joyce) Gray; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gray; a brother-in-law, Terry (Anna) Isenberg. Walter was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald (Dorothy) Gray, Kenneth Gray and Lloyd (Nancy) Gray. The family would like to thank Dr. Anna Bartnik and the Palliative Care Team at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center and Hospice Advantage for their kind and compassionate care given to their father. Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 10 a.m. at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road. Rev. Fr. Robert DeLand will officiate. Honoring Mr. Gray’s wishes cremation will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
