Draper, Jerry Jay, Alma, Michigan

Passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015 at his home. Age 80 years. He was born November 11, 1934 in St. Louis, MI the son of Harmon and Agnes (Bailey) Draper. He married Rose Marie Fairchild on February 2, 1957 in Shepherd. Jerry lived in Gratiot County his entire life, working at Leonard/Total Refinery in Alma for over 43 years. Jerry held numerous positions in operations and maintenance, retiring as an electrician in 1997. He was a member of East Superior Christian Church in Alma. Jerry served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from September 4, 1957 to September 3, 1959 and continued with the National Reserve until his honorable discharge on August 31, 1963. Jerry enjoyed many outdoor activities throughout his life, but none more than hunting and fishing. He especially loved to deer hunt with over 50 sets of antlers mounted in his basement. He also loved to camp, with his family remembering many summer camping trips to Higgins Lake. He also enjoyed playing Euchre with friends on Mondays and Fridays. Jerry is survived by three sons, David (Susanna) Draper of Littleton, CO, Richard (Vicky) Draper of Wheeler, Jerry (Dawn) Draper of Highland Ranch, CO, one daughter, Susan (Ron) Czajka of Littleton, CO, 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Barbara (Gerald) OBryant of St. Louis and Nancy Draper of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his wife Rose Draper in July of 2001, his parents, Harmon and Agnes Draper and his father and mother-in-law, Vernon and Faye Fairchild. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Amstutz officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the America Diabetes Association.
