Cates, Donald W., Hemlock, Michigan

Beloved husband, uncle and dear friend passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence. Age 80 years. The son of the late Milfred and Mae (Twilliger) Cates, Don was born on April 29, 1934. Don married Shirley Foy on May 19, 1956. She survives him. Don proudly served in the United States Army. He worked at Dow Chemical for 35 years. Following his retirement, Don then was a driver for Lincare. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, Albright Shores Eagles Club #3655, Saginaw Moose Lodge #82, and American Legion Post #295. Don loved spending time with family and friends at Wixom Waters Campground and fishing with his longtime friend Al Ahrens. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions. Surviving besides his wife Shirley are many nieces and nephews whom he loved like his own children; his brother, Dwight and Ann Cates; his sister, Vivian Clark; his brother-in-law, Glenn Taylor; two sisters-in-law, Louise Wardin and Lois Foy; three brothers-in-law, Thomas and Wanda Foy, Donald and Jackie Foye, Duane and Judy Foye; many dear friends; his canine companions, Annie and Benni. Don was preceded in death by his sister Marjorie Taylor; three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Harold Foy, James Foye, Melvin Wardin and Mary Jean Foye; his faithful canine companions, Sheba, Murphy Brown and Kelli. Honoring Mr. Cates wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 11 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate. Interment will follow in Richland Township Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by V.F.W. Post #7302. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, where the family will be present on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
