Cabrera, Nancy J., Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 surrounded by her family. Age 76 years. The daughter of the late Clare and Frances (Lynch) Gillett, Nancy was born June 6, 1939 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Nancy was previously married to John Wait with whom she had two daughters, Mellissa and Tracy. She married Donato M. Cabrera Jr., her husband of 34 years, on October 31, 1980. He survives her. Nancy had owned and operated Jack & Jill Nursery School until its closing. She later managed her husbandís physicianís office for many years. In 2003, Nancy and her two daughters had owned and operated Jack & Jill Clothier in Saginaw. Nancy was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and had volunteered in many school functions. She also volunteered for St. Maryís of Michigan Auxiliary. Nancy enjoyed reading, knitting, playing cards and hosting wonderful family gatherings and holidays. Most of all, she loved time spent with her children and grandchildren. Surviving besides her husband Dr. Donato M. Cabrera Jr. are seven children, Alan and Izumi Cabrera, San Francisco; Melissa and Chris Fila, Saginaw; Cheryl and Michael Mitri, Harrisonburg, Virginia; Jeffrey and Gina Cabrera, New Mexico; Steven Cabrera and Russell Davies, London, England; Tracy and Andrew Concannon, Saginaw; Brian Cabrera, Oakland, California; 11 grandchildren, Alicia and Michael Bradley, Jonathan and Amanda Doerr, Meghan Cabrera, Brendan Mitri, Joshua Mitri, Eric Mitri, Will Concannon, Haley Fila, Ethan Concannon, Yoko Cabrera and Nobu Cabrera; two great-grandchildren, Lincoln Bradley and Chloe Cabrera; one sister, Gloria Ferris, Petoskey; several nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and James Douma. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Randy Kelly will officiate. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, where the family will be present on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Family and friends will pray the Rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will take place Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey.
