Bell, Gregory Joseph, Alma, Michigan


Passed from this world to be with Christ Jesus and our Heavenly Father as a result of his final fight with pneumonia on March 20, 2015 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Gratiot. Age 66 years. He was born June 28, 1948 in Detroit the son of Joseph and Janet (Ingalls) Bell. He was a 1967 graduate of Alma High School and earned an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor Degree in Animal Husbandry from Michigan State University. He remained a member of their Alumni Association. He married Carol Shinabargar on August 7, 1993 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alma. Greg farmed most of his life on the family farm and worked for B and W Co-Op in Breckenridge. He also drove school bus for St. Louis Schools and retired as a RUO Corrections Officer from Pine River Correctional Facility after 12 years of service. While working at the prison he learned the true meaning of trust, loyalty and made forever friends. He was a lifetime member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alma and was a member of the Alma and St. Louis Knights of Columbus Council 2966, Servants of the Holy Family and served as a past Grand Knight. Greg was a staunch Democrat and served as the Chairman of the Gratiot County Democratic Party. He was a huge sports fan, especially his beloved MSU Spartans, Detroit Lions and Alma Panthers. Greg was a loyal husband, father and friend who will be deeply missed. Greg is survived by his loving wife, Carol of Alma, son, Kevin (Veronica) Sova of Grand Haven, daughter, Tabitha Watson of Alma, grandsons, Leajon Garcia, Christian Watson and Nick Fararr, three great-grandsons, Dillan, Zachary and Spencer Fararr. Also his siblings, Dr. James (Lexa) Bell of Lansing, Mark Bell of East Tawas, Nancy (Richard) Thomas of San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Paul (Mary) Bell of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Stephen (Jane) Bell of Maplewood, New Jersey and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Nativity of the Lord Parish, St. Mary’s in Alma with Fr. Nate Harburg officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Alma. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home in Alma with a prayer service and rosary being held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
