Ball, Roland, Alma, Michigan

Passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Arbor Grove Assisted Living. Age 88 years. He was born February 27, 1926 in Grand Rapids, Michigan the son of Roland and Florence (Bean) Ball. Roland was a 1944 graduate of South Haven High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during WWII as a Yeoman Third Class, from December 6, 1944 until his honorable discharge. Upon completion of his service he attended Western Michigan University, where he played baseball. On March 20, 1948 he married Mildred Ruth Spoors in Grand Rapids. He worked as the Agency Manager for Metropolitan Life in Grand Rapids and Battle Creek for 15 years. In 1973 Roland and his wife Mildred bought the Singer Sewing Centers in Alma and Mt. Pleasant running the store until their retirement in 1988. He was a member of the St. Louis Church of the Nazarene. Roland was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan and enjoyed fishing. Roland is survived by two sons, Timothy J. (Cindy) Ball of Springboro, Ohio, Dr. Gary L. (Brenda) Ball of North Port, FL, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, three brothers, Irving Ball of Portland, Richard Ball of Tennessee and David Ball of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 55 years, Mildred on February 29, 2004. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Louis Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow in the Military Section of Riverside Cemetery, Alma. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Louis Church of the Nazarene.
