Zessin, Howard, Saginaw Township, Michigan

Passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014, at the Covenant Medical Center-Harrison. Age 88 years. Howard was born on January 28, 1926, in Detroit. He was married to Jean Hedemann on March 25, 1951. She survives him. Howard served in the US Army during WWII and the Korea War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Sears for 22 years. Howard was an avid golfer, bowler and woodworker. Surviving besides his wife are their children, Janice (Dennis) Thomas, Sandra (Joe) Greene, David (Carla) Zessin, and Kathryn Lichtenwald; six grandchildren, Andi (Thomas), Mike and Matt (Greene), Jennifer, Samantha and Bailey (Lichtenwald); and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his infant son, Gary, his sister, Henrietta, and a son-in-law, Tom Lichtenwald. In accordance with Howard’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The Celebration of Howard’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church. The Rev. C. William Weis will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., then at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his services. Those wishing to express their sympathies are asked to consider memorial contributions to Michigan Lutheran Seminary, Peace Lutheran School, Valley Lutheran High School or the Lutheran Scholarship Bowling League.
