Wisniewski, Thomas R., Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend passed on to Heaven Saturday, October 18, 2014 after a fearless battle with cancer. Age 60 years. Son of the late Lawrence and Marilyn (Diment) Wisniewski, Tom was born September 21, 1954 in Saginaw Michigan. He married Karen Smith on September 24, 1983. She survives him. Tom was retired from Blue Cross, BCN and had served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves. Tom had an unforgettable laugh and a sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him. He said his life just kept getting better every year as he eventually became a father and raised two sons that he couldn’t have been prouder of. The infamous “Big Tom” was a favorite among the friends of his two boys. He loved anyplace “up north”, but especially Higgins Lake. Tom and Karen had some epic travels to all fifty states, except the four that nobody visits. He also loved his vagabond winters in Florida and anything on the History Channel. Surviving besides his wife Karen, are two sons, Tommy Wisniewski (Kelly Bader) and Michael Wisniewski, (Samantha Vogel); his brothers, John and Brenda Wisniewski, Mark and Paulette Wisniewski, Judy and Matt Heinen;, his mother-in-law Joann Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Jill Smith, Ron and Carmen Smith, Linda and Will Tishkoff, Sue Brandt and Doris Pillars; several aunts and uncles, and a his many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his rescue dogs and couch companions, Kobe and Kirby. Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by his brother Larry Wisniewski, and his father-in-law Howard Smith. Honoring Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Liturgy will take place on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 4735 W. Michigan Ave. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate. Friends may call at the church where the family will be present on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Small Paws Rescue or the University of Michigan Prostate Cancer Research. A special Thank You to the oncology staff at University of Michigan, especially Dr. David Smith, Margie and Jo.
