Whitman, Bernard R., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Age 79 years. Bernard R. Whitman was born February 18, 1935 in Midland to the late Kenneth and Freida (Hahn) Whitman. He married Lorraine Tarrant October 24, 1959. They shared 54 years together. She survives him. Bernard was a member of the former Redeemer Lutheran Church in Saginaw. He was also a member of Moose Lodge 82, where he enjoyed playing euchre and taking his granddaughters and great grandson Jacoby to Christmas and Halloween parties. Bernard also enjoyed fishing and hunting on the property he owned up-north with his son-in-law Johnny. He loved the Detroit Tigers and especially liked to attend the games with his son-in-law. Bernard was a devoted family man and was kind and giving. He faithfully played cards at Sunday family gatherings. He also loved to help people, including family members and even strangers. Surviving besides his wife Lorraine, he leaves his daughter Michelle (Johnny) Stout and their two children; Kathryn (Justin) Harper and Robin Stout, one great grandson Jacoby Harper, one sister Bessie Jean Keller, one brother Nelson (Darlene) Whitman, and many other loving family members and friends. Pastor Phillip DeVries will officiate the funeral service on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Road (S M-47). Interment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are welcome to call on the family at the funeral home on Friday, August 1, 2014 from 2:00-8:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
