Weber, George Edward, Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend fought cancer with great strength and dignity, George passed away peacefully Monday, November 24, 2014 at his home. Age 79 years. He was born on February 24, 1935 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late George and Lillian (Rice) Weber. He married Judith Ann Patterson on April 28, 1956 in Bay City, Michigan. They were married for 58 years. She survives him. George graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1953. He attended the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio in 1953. George graduated from Michigan State University in 1959 with a degree in Economics and Business. He began his Economic career working at his father’s IGA-Independent Grocers Alliance Store in Bridgeport, Michigan. He later purchased two IGA stores and the Brite and Clean Laundromat in Bridgeport. George built the Super Food Warehouse on Dixie Highway that supplied IGA Stores in Mid-Michigan. He was a lifetime member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, the Germania Town & Country Club and the IFRA-Independent Food Retailers Association. George was the President of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce in 1981. He loved to hunt, fish and carve wood. George’s entire life revolved around his family. Surviving besides his wife Judith are his children, Deborah (Miles) Moomey, Kathleen (Eric) Andersen, George (Jean) Weber; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Jane Lange. George was preceded in death by a daughter, Deanna Currier, and by one grandchild, Morgan. George’s family is grateful for the compassionate care he received from the staff of Reverence Hospice. Honoring George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of his life will take place among his family and friends.
