Fred was born December 15, 1923 in Koudum, Netherlands, one of nine children born to the late Clarence and Edith (DeJong) Venema. The family migrated to Lowell, Michigan in 1925. After his military service during World War II, he married Frieda Frank on September 28, 1946 in Saginaw. He retired in 1988 from Fullerton Tool Company.
