Torongo, Connie J. "CJ", Thomas Township, Michigan

Passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014. Age 66 years. Connie was born July 24, 1947 to Charles and Shirley (Strachen) Torongo. She was a 1965 graduate of Sts. Peter & Paul High School, and immediately went to work for Michigan Bell 28 years, and held several jobs there until her retirement in 1999. Connie loved Higgins Lake and spent all her retirement summers there. She had a heart as big as Texas and was always there for her friends and any person or animal in a vulnerable situation. When someone was in need, Connie was there with food, phone calls and cards. She enjoyed playing cards with her two card clubs, generally entertaining her friends children and grandchildren, and having monthly lunches with her retired friends from work. She was also a member of American Legion Post 22 Auxiliary. The family extends sincere appreciation to Covenant Hospital SICU including the doctors, nurses, Jeff, and the entire staff for their care and concern. She leaves to cherish her memory her father, Charles, two special aunts Donna Wintermeyer and Jean Johnson, her "adopted" Fettig family (Robert, Linda, Michael, Teresa Blasy, Laurie Rombach and Maureen Tasiemski), and special friend Betty Nagel-Cribbins. Connie was preceded in death by her mother Shirley in 2003. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate the Funeral Liturgy on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, 1035 N. River Road. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends are welcome to gather with the family at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Road (S-M47), on Tuesday, February 4 from 2:00-8:00 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday one hour before the funeral. In Lieu of flowers, memorial offerings are suggested to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Saginaw County Animal Control, Camp Curnalia Cottage Owners Assoc. Beautification Committee, or Old Town Outreach Center.
