Rupp, Marie Frances, Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Wednesday August 20, 2014 at Caretel Inns of Tri Cities. Age 92 years. Daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Reder) Chesney II, Marie was born on the family farm near Munger, Michigan on February 18, 1922. As a girl, Marie attended a one room school near her home and rode in a horse drawn buggy to attend Mass at St. Boniface Church in Bay City with her family, which include 100 first cousins. Marie was always proud of the fact that her grandfather was the lead builder of St. Boniface Church, which was the local parish for German immigrants. She loved the family potato farm and was the Queen of the Munger Potato Festival as a young woman. During WWII, Marie left the farm to work at Kresge’s in downtown Bay City, where she became a floor supervisor at age 19. In 1946, Marie met the love of her life, a young Saginaw policeman who had just returned from fighting with the Army in Europe. Marie married that wonderful man, William “Ken” Rupp on November 5, 1947. Marie and Ken enjoyed traveling and visited all 48 contiguous states. He predeceased her September 19, 2002, after 57 years of marriage. Marie loved to sew and made almost all her daughters’ clothes as they were growing up. Later she made hundreds of rag dolls and enjoyed sharing them with people all over the country. Marie was an avid gardener and passed on her love of gardening to her daughters. She taught them to identify and care for many flowers and vegetable plants, even before they were old enough to read. Marie was a charter member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society for many years. She was also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the American Legion and V.F.W auxiliaries, the Metropolitan and Urge Clubs. Marie leaves behind her two daughters and their spouses, Rose Marie and Robert Burns, Saginaw; Marjorie and Allan Meyers, Rockford, Michigan; four grandchildren, Michael Burns, Los Angeles, California; Sarah and JD Graves, Lake Orion, Michigan; Benjamin Meyers and his fiancé Kem Smith, Florida; Matthew Meyers and his fiancé Laura Shelanskey, Florida; three great-grandchildren, Mary Rose, Allison and Matthew Graves; brother-in-law, Bob and Dianne Rupp; several nieces and nephews; close friends, Dale and Kathy Gough.
