Roberts, Ralph K., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014 at St. Francis Home. Age 88 years. Son of the late Fay and Eleanor (Claus) Roberts, Ralph was born October 27, 1925 in Verndale, Minnesota. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School. Ralph served in the U. S. Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946. Ralph then became service manager at Garber Buick. He married Joyce M. Jessmore on February 28, 1953. She predeceased him July 26, 2002. He then married Mary (McQuiston) Donaldson on February 14, 2004. She survives him. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church since 1938. Ralph was a Consultant at the Institute for great Lakes Research at Bowling Green University. He was a member of Great Lakes Historical Society, Marine Historical Society of Detroit, Toronto Marine Historical Society, Great Lakes Maritime Institute, Manitowoc Marine Historical Society, Steamship Historical Society of America, U.S. Naval Institute, Lake Huron Lore Society, Saginaw River Marine Historical Society and International Association of Great Lakes Historians. He enjoyed collecting photographs of Great Lakes Shipping and collected and built 1/72nd Model Aircraft. Surviving besides his wife Mary are two daughters, Patricia and Austin Andres, Evegreen, Colorado; Betty Jo and Mark Kurz, Indian River; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; his sister, Shirley Picardi, Beaverton, Michigan; several nieces and nephews especially Ronald Picardi. Ralph was preceded in death by his brother, Paul F. Roberts. Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). Rev. James Neumann will officiate. Honoring Mr. Roberts wishes cremation will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
