Roberts, Coe P., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and good friend to many people, passed away on October 20, 2014, his 58th wedding anniversary. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and loving personality. He was born on June 8, 1937 to Patrick William and Helen Roberts. He graduated from SS. Peter & Paul High School in 1955, where he excelled in basketball, being named to the All-State and All-Area teams. In 1956, he graduated from Flint Barber College. He owned Coe’s Barber Shop on Gratiot Road for 50 years until his retirement in 2010. In 1956 he married Kay Johnson. They have been members of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish for 53 years. Coe was the first Eucharistic Minister, was elected to the first Parish Council, was an usher & choir member, organized the Athletic Association, was the first Athletic Director, and helped in the formation of the Junior Valley Parochial League. When the new church was built, Coe was the designer of the school gym, something he was so proud of. He coached basketball at St. Thomas Aquinas, SS. Peter & Paul High School (now Nouvel), Swan Valley and Bridgeport High Schools. He received many awards: the SSPP All-Sports Hall of Fame, the Saginaw Catholic Schools Hall of Fame, and the St. Thomas Aquinas Athletic Assoc. Man of the Year. Coe was a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 4232 and a member of the Saginaw Twp. Road Commission. Surviving besides his wife Kay, he leaves seven children to cherish his memory: Mary Fran (John) Engels, Cadillac, MI; Patrick Roberts (Amy), Madison Heights, MI; Dale (Mary Jo) Roberts, Saginaw; Coeleen (Eric) Trier, Summerville, SC; Ann (Brian) Young, Hemlock, MI; Janet (Paul) Antor, Summerville, SC; Kathleen (Chris) Wright, Belding, MI; he also leaves 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Coe was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie and Deacon Paul Antor will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. The Knights of Columbus Council #4232 will pray the Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
