Mraz, Joseph V., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved father and grandfather passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre. Age 87 years. The son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Cepica) Mraz, Joe was born September 28, 1926 in Lehigh, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Coast Guard in combat during WW II in the Pacific and was a member of American Legion Post #439, V.F.W. Post #1859 and past Commander of V.F.W. Post #9809. Joe married Shirley P. McDonald on December 24, 1947. She predeceased him December 18, 1991. Following his military service, he owned and operated his own paint shop in Carrollton. Joe was later employed at Swift Body Shop and retired as body shop manager at Burt Watson Chevrolet in 1989. He was a member of St. Josaphat Catholic Church and a charter member of Eagles Aerie #4413. Joe was also involved in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting. Surviving are three sons, one daughter and their spouses, Joseph and Diane Mraz, South Branch; Lavonne and Bill Dunning, Frankenwing, Tennessee; Vincent Mraz, Saginaw; Frank and Catherine Mraz, Lansing; a former daughter-in-law, Pam Mraz; 11 grandchildren, Thomas, Rebecca (David), Amy (Kevin), Mary (Billy), Missy (Darby), Kimberly (Brad) Dean (Amanda), Allison, Jeremiah, Joseph and Gavin; many great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by two brothers, James (Chuck) and Raymond Mraz. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josaphat Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in St. Andrew Mausoleum where Military Honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post #1859. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and at St. Josaphat Catholic Church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
