Kosiara, Dolores, Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved sister and aunt passed away peacefully Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Barton Woods following a brief but valiant fight with A.L.S. Age 79 years. The daughter of the late Walter and Josephine (Jaruzel) Kosiara, Dolores was born February 16, 1935 in Gaylord, Michigan. She spent her formative years working on the family farm in Gaylord, instilling a strong work ethic, which remained with her until the end. Dolores moved to Saginaw 1950’s to find work at Swift & Company Meat Packers. She worked for a short time at the Bob Duclos Insurance office. Dolores then went to work at Vescio’s Grocery Store and also worked part-time at K-Mart. Most of her working years were with the State of Michigan at the Treasury Department in Lansing. Dolores retired from there in 2003 and moved to Freeland to be near her sister and family. She never married but considered her several nieces and nephews her children. They in return cherished her. Dolores was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and was very proud of her Polish and Catholic background. She also cherished the time she spent returning to the family farm on weekends and vacations. Dolores also enjoyed the time she spent with her aunt, uncles and cousins. She volunteered faithfully and eagerly at Covenant Mackinaw and the Michigan Blood Bank. Surviving are two sisters and one brother, Regina (James) Lelo, Freeland; Frances Nowak, Gaylord; Joseph (Barbara) Kosiara, Middleville; nephews and nieces, Gregory (Cathy) Lelo, Freeland; Lynnmarie (Daniel) Mullen, Hartland; Thomas (Melissa) VanOchten, Essexville; Donald VanOchten, Royal Oak; Walter (Jennie) VanOchten , Nashville, Tennessee; Adrian (Lauren) Kosiara, Columbia, Missouri; Phillip Kosiara, Pleasant Hill, California; Sam (Jean) Kosiara, Peoria, Illinois; 12 great-nieces and nephews, Nicole and Jonathan Lelo, MacKenzie and Christopher Mullen, Garrett and Benjamin VanOchten, Isabel, Marryn and Jane Kosiara. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, and by a sister, Margaret VanOchten. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Freeland. Rev. Fr. Robert DeLand will officiate. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Gaylord, Michigan. There will be no visiting hours at the funeral home. Friends may call at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Freeland where the family will be present on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass.
