Keyes, James Edward, Flushing, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at his home with his family at his side. Age 69 years. Son of the late Dr. James T. and Margaret J. (Slaggert) Keyes, James was born August 9, 1945 in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended St. Mary’s High School in Saginaw and graduated from University in Detroit with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He served in the U.S. Army as First Lieutenant from 1970 – 1972. James married Sue Ann Martz on September 5, 1970. She survives him. James worked at U of D as Public Relations Director, The Center of Creative Studies as Vice President of Institutional Advancement, GMI as Vice President of Alumni and Community Relations and St. Mary’s of Michigan as Vice President of the Foundation retiring in 2007. He spent most of his life in service to others and was on numerous boards and volunteer organizations including Field Neuro Sciences Institute, Friends of the Hill House and St. Francis Home of Saginaw. He was an active member of St. Roberts Catholic Church in Flushing and a member of the Flushing Rotary. James enjoyed his retirement with his family in Glen Arbor playing Golf and walking the beach. Surviving besides his wife Sue Ann are two sons and one daughter, James D. and Jennifer Keyes, Plymouth; Brian E. and Kristin Keyes, Grand Blanc; Sara M. Keyes, Grand Blanc; 9 grandchildren; three sisters and three brothers, John and Debi Keyes, Florida; Jerry and Connie Keyes, Florida; Joe and Mary Keyes, Minnesota; Judy and Jim Grzesiak, Saginaw; Jane and John Bodway, Kalamazoo; Joan and Bradd Chisholm, Greenbush; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Donald and Mary Martz, Roseville; three brothers-in-law, Robert and Barbara Martz, Donald and Roseann Martz and Thomas and Pat Martz; many aunts, uncles cousins, nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his infant daughter and two infant brothers. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Saturday September 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning will officiate. Burial will take place on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, Saginaw, where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the Cathedral of Mary the Assumption from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the charity of your choice.
