Heintz, Frances A., Saginaw Township, Michigan

Beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at her home following a brief illness. Age 71 years. The daughter of the late William and Bernadette (Blust) MacDonald, Fran was born on November 29, 1942 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married John H. Heintz on September 24, 1961. He survives her. Fran graduated from St. Andrew High School. After high school, Fran worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the St. Francis Home. Inspired by her experience there, and her love and compassion for people, she continued her education at Delta College and graduated with a Registered Nurse (RN) degree. For the majority of her career, she worked at Covenant HealthCare/Saginaw General Hospital in the Cardiac Care Unit and retired in 2001. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church where she regularly volunteered by caring for the plants and was also active with the church knitting group. A member of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (O.L.L.I.) at SVSU, Fran took many classes and was particularly interested in art history. She enjoyed traveling and made an annual trip with John to Stratford, Canada—eventually seeing every one of Shakespeare’s plays. After retirement, Fran volunteered with the Saginaw R.E.A.D program. Her amazing talent for gardening was shared with the Saginaw Art Museum, where she volunteered for many years maintaining flower beds on the museum grounds. She was passionate about yoga, practicing at home daily and attending weekly classes and workshops. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her three grandchildren—babysitting, driving them to school, reading books, teaching them to sew and knit, etc. During her illness, the many cards she received meant so very much to her. Of the many cards, letters, well-wishes, prayers, and support from friends, family, and acquaintances she wrote: “I wake up every morning with a heart filled with gratitude.” Surviving besides her husband John are two daughters and one son, Jenean (Terry) Clarkson, Saginaw; Julie Heintz, Ypsilanti; John (Amy) Heintz, Saginaw; three grandchildren, Cole Clarkson, Sara and Kelly Heintz; one sister and three brothers, Rita (Tony) Reyes, Larry (Charlene) MacDonald, Douglas (Theresa) MacDonald, Joe MacDonald; two sisters-in-law, Mona and Jan MacDonald; and many nieces and nephews. Fran was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Eugene MacDonald. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. William Rutkowski will officiate with interment to follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. There will be a Vigil Service, led by Sr. Janet Pewoski CSJ, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
